Happy New Year!! I hope your January is off to a great start so far. I’ve been feeling super excited and determined to get things done lately. The beginning of the year always feels like a fresh start, don’t you think? I’ve always been one to try to live by the words, “You can start over at any time.” Especially if I’m having a bad day 😉 But there’s something about stepping into a new year that fills me with more excitement and determination than ever.
You may have realized by now that I’m a deeply reflective person. I love looking back because remembering where I’ve been/who I used to be, shines so much clarity on what God has done and is continuing to do. It inspires me and fills me with hope. Not to mention, builds my trust in God. 😉
I used to be really huge on starting the New Year with a huge list of goals. All those basic ones like – eat healthier! – or – spend less time on screens! Last year was the first I remember in a long time not setting any goals.
My Phrase of the Year
While, yes, I am setting some goals this year, I’m going about it a little differently.
I know a lot of people who like to choose a word or a phrase for their year. It’s something they think and pray about for a long time before finally settling on the right one. I’ve never started my year with a word. Usually about halfway through the year I can kinda figure out what word fits. Last year I think my word was “growth” or “becoming.”
This year I’ve decided to start with a phrase and shape my year and my goals around it.
INTENTIONAL LIVING.
That’s my phrase for 2022. It’s pretty self explanatory, but Dictionary.com describes “intention” as, “An act or instance of determining mentally upon some action or result.” Basically, to determine in your mind to be a good steward of your finances. To determine to glorify God in the care of your body. And so on.
Here’s the main areas I want to be more intentional in this year:
Finances
Health
Relationships
My relationship with God
My responsibilities
My time
My Life is God’s
The more I begin to grasp that my life isn’t my own, the more I see just how much of my life I need to let go of and surrender to the Lord. My life is entirely God’s and I am meant to honor and glorify Him with it. So I had to ask myself…
Am I honoring God in the stewarding of my finances?
Am I glorifying God in the care of my body?
Am I glorifying God in how I treat the people in my life?
Am I honoring God in making Him my number one priority?
Am I glorifying God in how I go about my daily responsibilities?
These questions are what’s going to help me shape my goals and break them down into small, achievable steps. And eventually, by the end of the year, I pray I’ll be a woman who lives intentionally to the glory of God.
What is your word/phrase of the year if you have one? What are some of the goals you hope to accomplish?
